Your 2026 Home Refresh Guide
This Home Refresh Guide is a complete list of everything you need to know for creating a beautiful home in 2026. To begin, I’m sharing the process I use to design my home this year, and I’ll even include design trends for the year. I’m not a fan of chasing trends, but knowing where to go and what not to use will save you time and money. Here is your 2026 Home Refresh Guide!

Before we get into design, let’s address the elephant in the room. I am Lisa, your friend, so don’t hate me for this.. but your house is cluttered. For far too long, you have decorated by adding all the little decor pieces in and buying and adding and buying some more. I don’t blame you, and if I’m honest, that was me too.
I am passionate about refreshing and creating a home on purpose because I had to figure it out over many years. Mostly, I wasted time and money trying to save time and money.
If you want the home you’ve always wanted, trust me with this journey and embrace every step. Along the way, you will create a home from the bones and foundation up! It feels weird at first, but at the end of the process, you will have created something you didn’t think was possible.
Let’s get Started!
Your 2026 Home Refresh Guide
To refresh your home, you will follow these steps. Each phase is linked to all the information you need for that step. Pick a room and get started.

Once you have completed one phase, move to the next and make sure to email me or follow me on Instagram to share how it’s going! I’m always here to give my thoughts and encouragement along the way.
Another great resource for you is the post on my favorite design books. Having inspiration and guidelines along the way is helpful. I’m not a professional designer, but I have taken courses and studied all the things to learn how to create a home I love without hiring a designer. I found that you can have a beautifully created space on a budget if you follow a few simple rules. I’m a cookies on a bottom shelf kind of girl.
The 2026 Home Decor Trends
This is not the end-all, be-all. Just because they say something is in, doesn’t mean I need to buy into it. Some trends come and go quickly. Mostly, I want to really consider that the permanent upgrades are considering the trends so my home value stays home. Painting a room is a fairly quick and easy fix- so consider the type of project and the style of your home with the trends in mind.
The biggest mistake I see is people investing in things like tile and backsplash with materials and designs that are no longer trending. It can feel adventurous and wild to take a chance on a new trend, but if it vibes with your style, go for it. You’ll be glad you did.

Use this as a guide, but allow for your creativity and personal style to ultimately create your home.
- Browns. All the browns. Brown chairs, brown walls, brown everything. I’m here for it.
- Soft neutrals. Soft walls, soft backsplashes. No more stark white or grey walls. You want off-white.
- Coastal feel. Soft blues and greens with wicker making a big statement
- Silver. I’m not saying gold is out, but silver is having a moment. From vases to trays, to finishes like knobs and faucets.
- Maximalism. This isn’t the opposite of minimalism, but it’s the layering and idea of less is more and more is more. The fabrics, textures, and collectables are coming back.. But with caution, guys. This has to be done right!
- Pattern on Pattern. Get ready for pattern play and pillows with all different patterns and design interests.
- Muted Gem Hues Burnt colors, burgundy is huge, and natural colors from gems like soft pinks, blues and greens.
- Darker Wood is Back and I can’t believe I’m admitting that I’m here for it. Embrace your dark hardwoods and the antqiue finish of dark wood. It’s back and here to stay.
