How to Create a Whimsical Christmas Look with Simple & Affordable Decor
This whimsical Christmas is the final bundle of the Christmas bundle series. This color combo is my favorite by far! There’s something so magical and Narnia about it. The neutral textures and splashes help balance the bright colors and the pops of blue are a nostalgic surprise.

Decorating my home for Christmas — without spending $$$
If there’s ever been a year where we have needed Christmas on a budget, it’s this year. I don’t know if it’s the inflation of groceries, the cost of living, or the ages of my kids, but we are on a tight budget.
Instead of feeling discouraged, I chose to try something new this year, and it’s brought a lot more peace than I thought it would, if I’m honest. Here is how I decorated my home for Christmas without spending a lot of money.
1. Use a Color Palette
We have already covered this idea in a Moody Christmas blog post (you can find that here), but choosing a color palette helps keep your home cohesive and put together.
I don’t have to use all my decor in order to create something beautiful, and this year there’s been something great about less. Can I do more? Yes. Should I do more after this year? I guess the verdict will be out, but so far, I am loving the simplicity — and I will not be dreading takedown.
If you decorate your house correctly, you do not need as much as you think to create a cohesive holiday environment.
2. Shop Your Home
If you want to get the most bang for your buck, then use what you’ve already purchased.
I have garland that is not as popular as it once was. The trends have gone to less garland, and every year there’s another reason why we do not want to invest in new garland — when the fact is, I have a beautiful, high-quality gray garland.
So by shopping my house first, I decided to use my garland, and then guess what? I found a centerpiece! I have different stems that I use throughout the year — some are magnolia style, some are just basic green stems — and I put them throughout my garland. And wow, it came to life.
Shopping your house will help you think outside the box, and when you think outside the box, you are creating character and charm.
And remember, you don’t have to use it just because you own it — but shop your house before you buy.
3. Memories Over Trendy Decor
When I think about the charm of Christmas and how I want my house to feel this holiday season, I remember that it’s the moments piled on the sofa in front of a Christmas movie, drinking hot chocolate.
It can be baking Christmas treats and a holiday meal around the table, board games, or puzzles. There are so many other ways to celebrate Christmas other than decor.
So this year, I have set my Christmas budget. I’m only buying things that will stand the test of time so that I’m not in the same position next year because I followed the trends. Instead, I am choosing memories.
There is no price tag on being present and creating a home that is filled with love and peace — and the excitement of the birth of Jesus.
For us, we love to use Advent calendars. We’ve used this interactive book for years, but my kids also love these blocks. I’m also a big fan of this nativity scene and letting my kids play with all season long. Keeping the season about Jesus, will change everything-even if this is your first year or you’ve been doing this for years. When our eyes are on Jesus and off the world, the joy of Christmas comes alive!
I hope this Christmas you make room for being present and making memories. In the middle of the busiest time of year, may you slow down and find gratitude and contentment.
Those are the gifts that I want to give my family this year — and they begin with me and the environment I create in our home.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this Christmas series and hopefully found some great additions for your own home.
Until next time.
Lisa
