Find Your Why for your Home Reset

Thanks to the Covid era, I realized how important my home is to my mental health and how I serve my family. Churches were closed, my job as a hair stylist was suddenly on pause, and the kids were at home. In a world of uncontrollable things, I had to control what I could: my home. This was the beginning of a revelation and a new perspective on the power of a home.

When I limit the amount of things we own and manage, my anxiety lifts and my mood changes. I noticed a difference in my family as well. They played together more and returned to the simple things like chalk drawing and jumping on the trampoline.

The heart of a home

As women, our hearts are deeply connected to our homes, so we can ignore the clutter or possibly not even notice it, but the condition of our homes still affects us. Most of all, once you do something new and fight the feelings of empty or weird, you find joy, peace, and a simplicity that allows you to really live.

I no longer think that decorating my home is buying more stuff and doing more things. Personally, when I created a home, I spent more time eliminating and less time adding decor. The pictures that inspire you on Pinterest don’t have all the extra things we add to our lives.

The home reset is especially for anyone struggling with anxiety and depression. Your home environment matters: stuff lying around affects your mood and your peace. Your home should be a place of rest with space to make memories.

The Process is Worth it

To undo what you’ve always done, we are going to have to do some hard work, but I’m here to show you every step of the way and at the end of this journey, you will have the tools to not only create a home you love, but create a life of balance

Warning: This is not for you to do more and add more to your schedule. You are going to have to say no and make sacrifices. I was fortunate enough to do this during the Covid days when sports activities were cancelled and the coming and going had paused. We were at home day after day. Not to state the obvious, but you will need to be home to get this done.

Consider taking a short break from work to jumpstart or delegate tasks that are not necessary to allow you time for a short period to regain peace in your life. This will be hard and there will be times in the middle that you want to quit, but it will be worth it.

A home that is charming and full of warmth and character, is closer than you realize. You just have to do it on purpose.

The Ultimate Home Reset

The Home Reset is organized into stages, to help keep you motivated and focused. We will work through one step at a time, focusing on the goals and tasks in that step alone, before moving on to the next. Trust the process and keep going. You will be amazed and reap the benefits of a home you never thought could be yours.

  1. Whole house declutter. This step we will focus on eliminating and challenging ourselves to live with less. It’s uncomfortable at first, but addictive once you get started.
  2. Declutter your life. Now that our house is manageable, we take time to look at how we manage our time, routines, home-keeping schedules, and creating balance.
  3. Create a home. Once you get to step three, you will have more contentment, peace and you’ll be ready to create a home that you love. We will go room by room space by space through your home, decorating room-by-room.

You can begin on step 3 while you are in step 2, but be patient with the process. This will save you time and money, while also creating a home organically on purpose to stand the test of time.

Tips & Encouragement

  • Keep your eyes on the prize. It WILL get worse before it gets better.
  • Don’t wait until you have a whole hour. It is best to work with hour blocks but if you have 10 minutes, do what you can in 10 minutes.
  • The more you declutter the less you have to organize and manage.
  • Please do not buy anything in this phase. You will not believe the impact you can have on a room by removing and arranging on purpose.
  • Create a reward for each finished room. Grab your favorite coffee, give yourself a chore free day, buy that new vacuum or maybe a candle. You deserve it.
